Hairy crowfoot grows in hardwood swamps, lowland hardwood and floodplain forests, and other wet places in woods and thickets. It grows on wet mineral soil or muck. It adds pretty color in mixtures but it readily re-seeds and, if allowed to proliferate without competition, it can become somewhat aggressive.
